How Retail Media Revenue Works

リテールメディア 広告収益 CPM CPC 収益化

With retail media, stores earn revenue by providing ad space. Revenue is calculated based on the number of ad impressions (displays) or clicks.

Types of Pricing Models

  • Impression-based pricing (CPM): Revenue is generated every time an ad is displayed 1,000 times. Stores with more foot traffic see more impressions, which means higher revenue.
  • Click-based pricing (CPC): Revenue is generated every time a customer clicks (taps) an ad. This pricing model is effective on interactive devices, such as touch panels.

Which pricing model applies depends on the advertiser's campaign settings. Stores cannot choose the pricing model themselves.

Revenue Calculation Examples

  • If the CPM is 500 yen and there are 50,000 monthly impressions: 500 yen x 50 = 25,000 yen in revenue
  • If the CPC is 50 yen and there are 200 monthly clicks: 50 yen x 200 = 10,000 yen in revenue

Actual revenue varies based on the campaign's CPM/CPC unit price, ad competition, and where the device is installed.

Factors That Affect Revenue

  • Installation location: Locations that catch customers' eyes more easily, such as near the register or entrance, generate more impressions.
  • Number of customers: Stores and time slots with more foot traffic generate more revenue.
  • Device type: Large digital signage has high visibility, and ads with higher display unit prices may be delivered to it.
  • Targeting match: The closer the advertiser's target attributes match the store's customer base, the higher the unit price of delivered ads tends to be.

Receiving Revenue

Calculated revenue is tallied on a monthly basis and paid out via the designated account or payment method. You can check revenue details in the Retail Media Revenue Report. Please check your contract terms for detailed payment cycles and minimum payout amounts.
