Creating 1-on-1 and Group Threads

Staff Communications Chat Threads Direct Message Group

This article explains the thread feature that lets staff communicate individually with one another. There are two types — 1-on-1 and group — used depending on your needs.

Starting a 1-on-1 message

Select a recipient from the staff list and click "Send Message" to open a thread with that staff member. If a thread already exists between the same two people, that existing thread is reused, so duplicate threads aren't created.

Creating a group thread

  1. Click "New Group Thread" on the Communications screen
  2. Enter a thread title (e.g. "Kitchen Contact Group")
  3. Check the staff members you want to include
  4. Click "Create" to add the thread to every participant's inbox

Sending messages

  • Type your message and click "Send," or press Cmd/Ctrl + Enter
  • You can also send attached files (photos, PDFs)
  • When a new message is posted, participants who haven't read it yet are notified by email

Editing and deleting messages

  • You can edit or delete messages you posted, even after sending
  • Deleting replaces the message with "This message was deleted" (the history is kept)
  • Only owners or store managers can delete other people's messages

Adding and removing participants

In a group thread, you can add or remove participants later. Additions and removals are recorded as system messages in the thread, so you can see afterward who joined or left and when. Participants of a 1-on-1 thread cannot be changed (create a new group thread if needed).

Archiving a thread

Threads you no longer use can be hidden from the list using the "Archive" button. Archived threads keep their history and remain available for reference from the owner/store manager moderation screen.

How read status works

Opening a thread automatically marks all messages in it as read up to that point. On the list screen, threads with unread messages are displayed near the top.
