B2B EC · Stock & shipping

Hold the stock the moment an order comes in

Products whose stock you track are reserved when ordered, so nothing is oversold between order and shipment. Recording a shipment takes it off stock and sends the customer a notice with the tracking number.

B2B EC is included in the Growth plan and above, with a 30-day free trial.

What it is

Stock held at order

The order's quantity is held at your ship-from location and released on cancellation. Customers can order up to on-hand minus held.

Stock handling per product

In stock only, backorder allowed, or not tracked. Customers see in stock, low stock or on backorder, never the count.

Shipping & fees

Recording a shipment takes it off stock and notifies the customer. Shipping is free, flat or by region.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose where you ship from

In the store's B2B EC settings, choose the one location stock is held at.

  2. 2

    Choose stock handling

Set products to in stock only or backorder as you get their counts right.

  3. 3

    Held at order

An order holds stock and lowers the orderable quantity.

  4. 4

    Record the shipment

Stock goes down and the customer is notified. Once everything has gone, the order is marked shipped.

B2B stock screen

On hand, held and orderable, per product

On Growth, a stock screen lists the B2B products at your ship-from location, with adjustments and movement history.

  • Orderable = on hand − held
  • Adjust a quantity and record why
  • History of receiving, shipping, adjustments and holds
Screens show sample data.

What the customer sees

Show availability, not the count

Customers see in stock, low stock or on backorder. Products sold from stock only cannot be ordered beyond what is orderable.

  • Backorder products take the extra as on backorder
  • Checked both when adding to the cart and at checkout
  • Holds are released on cancellation or an abandoned payment

Shipping notices & fees

Tell them it has shipped, with the tracking number

Record a shipment in order management and stock goes down, and the customer gets an email with the carrier and tracking number.

  • Split shipments take off what each one carries
  • Shipped once everything has gone, delivered once it has all arrived
  • Shipping free, flat or by region, free above an amount

What is different

The same stock data as your shop

The Growth B2B stock screen and Enterprise warehouse management share one set of data. Upgrading needs no stock migration.

No overselling

Stock is held at order, so the days between order and shipment never sell the same stock twice, even when orders arrive at the same moment.

Order status moves on by itself

Orders move to shipped and delivered as shipments are recorded and arrive, in your order management and in the customer's history.

How we designed it

What we built, what we left out, and why.

01

"Not tracked" by default

Turning on B2B EC must not change how things work today. Switch products to stock only or backorder as their counts are right.

02

Held at order

Taking stock off only at shipment oversells in the days between. Wholesale has long gaps there, so stock is held when ordered.

03

One ship-from location

Enough for almost every first customer, and never a question of where stock was held. Several warehouses are Enterprise's warehouse management.
