Writing a Check-in URL to an NFC Tag

Tag
With an NFC tag, customers can check in just by tapping their phone against it — no need to launch a camera. Combining it with a QR code makes things even more convenient.
What you'll need
- NFC tag: NTAG213 or higher is recommended. Available for a few hundred yen at electronics retailers or online
- NFC writer app: Install on your phone (details below)
- NFC-capable phone: You'll need one device at your store for writing (most iPhone 7 and later, and Android 4.4 and later models support this)
Recommended writer apps
- NFC Tools (iOS / Android, free): Simple and easy to understand
- NXP TagWriter (Android, free): The official app from the major NFC tag manufacturer
Steps to write the check-in URL
- Open the campaign edit screen in the management console
- Copy the value in the "Check-in URL" field on the right (you can use the copy button on the right edge)
- Launch your NFC writer app and select "Write" or "Write Tag"
- Choose "URL" or "URI" as the record type
- Paste the copied check-in URL
- Tap the "Write" button and hold the tag against the back of your phone
- If it shows "Write complete," you're done
Placing it at the front of your store
- Stick it somewhere customers would naturally place their phone, such as next to the register, on a counter, or at the entrance
- Metal surfaces block the signal, so avoid sticking it directly onto a metal fixture (placing a thick sheet of paper or resin under the NFC tag improves this)
- We recommend adding an NFC icon or a note saying "Tap your phone to check in"
- To avoid read issues, it's reassuring to write a few spare tags in advance
Testing it works
After setup, be sure to test that you can check in yourself by tapping your phone. On iOS, make sure the NFC feature is enabled (via NFC Tag Reader in Control Center, or automatic detection).
