Creating and Running Surveys

Survey QR Coupon Aggregation

With ReceiptRoller's survey feature, customers can respond via QR code or a digital receipt, and you can check response counts and satisfaction scores (NPS) right away. You can also automatically issue a coupon when a response is completed.

Creating a survey

  1. Open "Surveys" from the store management screen.
  2. Click "New Survey" in the top right.
  3. Enter the title, description, and publish period. The title is shown to customers.
  4. In the "Questions" area, add the questions you need. You can register multiple questions per survey.

Available question types

  • Single choice (radio): Choose just one option from the ones you've prepared.
  • Multiple choice (checkbox): Choose multiple options.
  • Free text: Enter text freely.
  • Rating: Rate on a scale, e.g. 1–5. The minimum and maximum values can be customized.
  • NPS: A recommendation score from 0–10, where 0 = would not recommend at all and 10 = would definitely recommend.

Linking to a coupon

Choose a pre-registered coupon under "Reward / Distribution Settings," and the coupon ID is recorded when a response is completed and shown on the completion screen. The coupon's validity period and terms of use follow the settings on the coupon side.

Downloading the QR code and A6 poster

On the right side of the edit screen, there's a QR code preview and download buttons for the distribution PDF/PNG. The A6-size poster PDF can be printed and posted at your store as-is.

Automatically display on receipts (optional)

Turning on "Show on digital receipt" automatically adds a link to the survey on the target digital receipts. If you want to narrow down which customers see it, add conditions in the "Target Customers" section.

Narrowing down target customers

All conditions are evaluated as AND (shown only to customers who satisfy every condition). Commonly used conditions can be added with one click from the template buttons.

  • Purchases of ¥1,000 or more
  • Purchases of 3 items or more
  • Repeat customers only (2nd visit or later)
  • Evening visits (after 18:00)

You can also narrow down by category, product name, day of week (mon–sun), and time band (an integer from 0–23). Leaving it blank shows the survey on all target receipts.

Checking response results

From the survey list, click "Analytics" to check response counts, coupon issue counts, per-question graphs, and recent responses. Scores for NPS questions are calculated automatically.

Downloading CSV

Click "Download CSV" in the top right of the analytics screen to get response date/time, user, and answers to each question as a UTF-8 BOM CSV file. It opens directly in Excel. Up to the most recent 10,000 records can be downloaded in a single download.

Stopping and resuming a survey

Click "Archive" on the edit screen to stop accepting new responses from the QR code or embedded receipt link. Click "Republish Survey" to return it to published status. Deleting a survey removes all of its responses as well, so we recommend archiving instead if you want to keep the response data.

Things to note

  • For surveys that issue coupons, we recommend requiring customers to sign in (turning off anonymous responses). With anonymous responses, the same device may be able to submit multiple responses.
  • For surveys with a set validity period, the response screen will show "Outside the valid period" once the period has ended.
  • Receipt embed targeting only applies to "Show on digital receipt." Surveys opened via QR code or a direct link can still be answered regardless of these conditions.
