How Digital Receipts Work

Digital Receipt POS Integration Square Smaregi Store DX

ReceiptRoller's digital receipts work by integrating with your store's POS system. Every time a sale is rung up, the POS transaction data is automatically sent to ReceiptRoller, where it is stored and made available to customers as a digital receipt.

The digital receipt flow

  • Checkout — Sales are rung up as usual at the store's POS register.
  • Data transmission — The transaction data is automatically sent to ReceiptRoller's servers.
  • Receipt generation and storage — Receipt data is generated and stored securely in the cloud.
  • Delivery to the consumer — Consumers can view their digital receipt anytime from the Web app or a mini-app.

Supported POS systems

ReceiptRoller currently integrates officially with the following two POS systems. All integrations run through an app or API — this is real-time automatic integration, not manual entry or CSV import.

  • Square — App-based integration (OAuth authentication). Once you connect your Square account from the POS terminal settings, data is sent in real time with every sale.
  • Smaregi — API integration. Connect by entering your Smaregi contract ID, store ID, and access token in the POS terminal settings.

For setup instructions, see the configuration guide for your specific POS system.

Receipt data structure

A digital receipt contains all the information a paper receipt does, and more.

  • Transaction information — Date/time of the transaction, total amount, tax amount, discount amount, subtotal
  • Line-item details — Product name, unit price, quantity (supports multiple line items)
  • Payment information — Payment method (cash, credit card, QR payment, IC card, etc.)
  • Store information — Store name, phone number, address
  • Invoice information — Registration number for Qualified Invoices (T number)

How consumers view their receipts

  • Web app — Log in to ReceiptRoller's Web app and browse receipts by month from "Receipt List."
  • Mini-app — View recent receipts within the mini-app provided by the store, with no need to switch to a separate app.
  • REST API — Access receipt data from external applications using OAuth 2.0 authentication.

Data security

  • User data isolation — Each user's data is managed independently and cannot be accessed by other users.
  • Authentication and authorization — Access control is enforced using OAuth 2.0.
  • Soft delete — Receipt deletion is a soft delete, so data can be recovered in case of accidental operation.
