Pairing an Android Device

Media Display Pairing Android Setup Digital Signage

This article explains how to pair an Android device installed in your store with your Receipt Roller business account. It takes about a minute per device.

Before you start

  • Connect the Android device to Wi-Fi
  • Install the "Receipt Roller Display" app on the Android device (Google Play)
  • Sign in to the management screen with an account that has owner or manager permission

Steps

  1. From the management screen's side menu, open "Media Display"
  2. Click the "Add Display" button
  3. Enter a display name (e.g. "Storefront Signage," "Register-Side Monitor")
  4. If needed, select the store the display belongs to and the POS terminal it connects with (optional)
  5. Click "Issue Pairing Code"
  6. Enter the 6-digit code shown on screen into the app on the Android device
  7. Once pairing is complete, media playback starts automatically

Notes on the pairing code

  • The code is valid for 10 minutes. Be sure to enter it while it's on screen
  • Each code can only be used once. If you closed the screen by mistake, delete the display you created and start over to get a new code
  • The code can only be viewed on this screen. Please close it only after you've finished entering it on the Android device

Linking with a POS terminal (optional)

For a kiosk device that doubles as a register (an Android device that shows both the POS and the display), selecting "Link with POS terminal" during pairing makes it easier to manage the association later. Skip this for a device used only as a standalone display.

Checking status after registration

Back on the display list, the paired device shows as "Online" (it shows "Online" if the last heartbeat was within 5 minutes, and "Offline" if more time has passed).

Troubleshooting

  • "Code is invalid" — The 10-minute validity period has passed, or the code has already been used. Issue a new code from the management screen.
  • Stuck on "Waiting to pair" — Code entry hasn't been completed in the Android app. Enter the code again in the app.
  • Playback doesn't start after registration — You need to configure a campaign and placement. See "Creating and Distributing a Campaign."
