Importing Bank and Credit Card Statement Screenshots

When you take a screenshot of the statement screen in your banking or credit card app and import it, you can manage your spending and income together alongside your receipts. AI reads the date, merchant, and amount from the image, and the flow lets you review everything before saving. There's no need to download or process CSV files.

How to import

  • Open the statement screen in your banking or card app and take a screenshot
  • From the scan screen in the ReceiptRoller app, choose "Import statement" and select your screenshot
  • A list of the transactions AI read will appear. You can correct the date, merchant, and amount right there, and swipe to remove any lines you don't need
  • Tap "Save" to register the transactions you've reviewed

Types of statements that can be read

  • Credit card statements — the usage date, merchant, and amount are read as spending. Total lines are excluded automatically
  • Bank account statements — withdrawals (money out) are recorded as spending, and deposits (salary, transfers in, and so on) are recorded as income. Balances are not recorded
  • Refund and cancellation lines are treated as negative spending and subtracted from the month's total
  • Transfers between your own accounts are counted as neither spending nor income (to prevent double-counting)

Why income is recorded too

When you can see not just your spending but your income as well, you get a sense of "how much can I spend this month" and "how much did I put back into savings." Imported income is reflected in next month's income and savings summary, and is used to look back on your household budget and to suggest ways to save. If you set your own monthly income, such as your salary, the amount you set takes priority.

If you import the same statement twice

Don't worry. Transactions with the same merchant, date, and amount are recognized as already registered and won't be added twice. The same applies if your screenshots overlap, or if a purchase from a paper receipt you already scanned also appears on the statement. Income records are protected by the same mechanism.

Tips for better reading accuracy

  • Capture the shot so that each full line (date, merchant, amount) fits on the screen
  • If the text is too small, zoom in on the app's display before capturing for better accuracy
  • For long statements, split them into several screenshots and import them in order (duplicates are removed automatically)

After importing

Saved spending is reflected right away in your receipt list and spending totals, and income appears in next month's summary. Since spending is registered under the "Uncategorized" category, sorting it from Spending totals and category management will make your monthly review more accurate.
