Issuing a Per-Store Entry Point for the LINE Mini App
ReceiptRoller can issue a unique LINE Mini App entry-point URL for each store. Customers can access the store-specific LINE Mini App directly from touchpoints they already use on LINE — adding the official account as a friend, the rich menu, a QR code, and more. No app download or browser switching is required.
This article covers how per-store entry points work, what to prepare beforehand, setup steps, the customer usage flow, and troubleshooting.
What is a LINE Mini App
A LINE Mini App is a small app that runs inside the LINE app. Customers can launch the mini app directly from LINE's chat, rich menu, or a QR code, and within the mini app they can present their membership card, make reservations, claim coupons, and check notifications.
Unlike a native app (one distributed via the App Store / Google Play), customers don't need to install a new app. Since it can be reached through LINE, which has a huge user base in Japan, it's an easy channel to reach even first-time customers.
What is a per-store entry point
ReceiptRoller's store app platform uses a mini-app foundation shared across all stores, but the entry-point URL is issued separately for each store. For example:
- Store A's entry point:
https://liff.line.me/[liff-id]?store=store-a - Store B's entry point:
https://liff.line.me/[liff-id]?store=store-b
This is a design where the same mini-app foundation is shared, while the store is switched via a URL parameter. When a customer enters through Store A's entry point, Store A's logo, membership card, and menu are displayed. There's no need for each store to build a separate LINE official account or a separate mini app.
What you need beforehand
- Your store's LINE official account — you need an account set up with a LINE Business ID (formerly LINE@). If you don't have one yet, you can set one up for free at LINE Business
- A LINE Developers account — a Developers account with management rights linked to the LINE official account
- The store app's web channel must already be published — the default URL must be displaying correctly
The role of LIFF (LINE Front-end Framework)
The LINE Mini App is implemented as a LIFF (LINE Front-end Framework) app. LIFF is a mechanism for running web pages inside the LINE app, invoked through a LIFF ID issued on the LINE side.
ReceiptRoller manages the mini app's program itself, but the LIFF ID is issued by the store's own LINE Developers account. This properly links the mini app with the LINE official account, enabling features like LINE login and adding as a friend.
Setup steps
- Create a LIFF app in LINE Developers: open your store's channel in the LINE Developers console, go to the "LIFF" tab, and click "Add." For the endpoint URL, enter the URL specified by ReceiptRoller (described below)
- Register the LIFF ID in ReceiptRoller: go to the store management screen → "Store App" → "LINE Mini App," and enter the issued LIFF ID
- Get the per-store entry point URL: after registration, the per-store LIFF URL is displayed on the store management screen. This is the URL you'll share with customers
- Set it in the LINE official account's rich menu: in LINE Business Manager, set the above LIFF URL as the link destination for the rich menu
- Generate a QR code: from the mini app screen in the store management screen, you can download a QR code for the LIFF URL. Print it on a storefront poster or on receipts
Customer usage flow
- The customer scans the store's QR code with LINE, or taps the rich menu
- The mini app launches within LINE (no installation required)
- First time only: the customer is prompted to allow LINE login and to add the store's LINE official account as a friend
- Once member registration (name, phone number, etc.) is complete, a link to add a Wallet membership card is displayed on the spot
- From the second time onward, launching LINE → tapping the mini app immediately opens the membership card or booking screen
Store operations
- Line up buttons like "Membership Card," "Reservations," and "Coupons" in the rich menu — each jumps directly to the corresponding screen via different LIFF URL parameters
- Storefront QR code — placing it on the register counter, tables, or at the entrance lets customers scan it with their smartphone upon arrival and register as a member on the spot
- Print the QR on receipts — printing the LIFF URL's QR code at the bottom of a paper receipt lets you guide customers to the mini app right after purchase
- Guide from LINE official account messages — insert a link to the mini app in messages like "Today's recommendation" or "Campaign"
For multi-store operations
If you operate multiple stores, a separate entry-point URL is issued for each store. Displaying each store's QR code at that storefront gives customers access to that specific store's membership card, reservations, and campaign information.
You can also guide customers to multiple stores from a single LINE official account. This works by lining up "Store A" and "Store B" buttons in the rich menu, each pointing to a different entry point.
LINE login and customer authentication
When the mini app launches, the customer signs in to ReceiptRoller via LINE login. This means:
- Member information such as member number and contact details is automatically pre-filled from the LINE profile
- Adding the store's LINE official account as a friend is suggested at the same time as using the mini app
- Store operators can send LINE notifications directly to that customer's LINE chat
Since LINE login uses LINE's own security infrastructure, no separate ReceiptRoller password entry is required.
Troubleshooting
- The LIFF URL doesn't launch even when opened: check whether the LIFF ID is registered correctly, and whether the LIFF app's endpoint URL matches the URL specified by ReceiptRoller
- Shows "Invalid LIFF ID": check whether the LIFF app is in "published" status on the LINE Developers console side
- Adding the LINE official account as a friend doesn't appear: check whether the mini app and official account are correctly linked in the "Linked bot" setting in LINE Developers
- Distributed the wrong per-store entry point URL: re-obtain the correct URL from the "LINE Mini App" screen in the management screen, and update your rich menu / QR code
- QR code won't scan: it may be too small when printed. We recommend at least 5cm square in actual size. Paper reflection and creases also affect read accuracy
Notes
- The LINE official account's monthly message delivery count has an upper limit based on your LINE-side plan. This doesn't affect mini app usage itself, but please be mindful when sending LINE notifications
- Changing the LIFF app's endpoint URL may temporarily invalidate customer authentication. Only change it when truly necessary
- The LINE Mini App only works within LINE. For customers who don't have the LINE app installed, guiding them to ReceiptRoller's web channel serves as the alternative
