Location Management

WMS Location Warehouse Backroom Sales Floor

The WMS manages product inventory by "location." Setting up locations correctly lets you know exactly where — and how many — items are stored, improving the accuracy of replenishment decisions and picking efficiency.

Types of locations

There are three types of locations, used depending on their purpose.

  • Warehouse — A storage area for large volumes of inventory. Corresponds to a distribution hub or external warehouse. You can register multiple warehouses, each as a separate location
  • StoreBackroom — The stock storage area at a store. This is the starting point for replenishing the sales floor. Set up a separate backroom for each store
  • StoreFloor — The area where products are actually displayed. You can manage inventory at a finer level of detail too, such as shelves, end caps, or refrigerated cases

Creating a location

  • From "Location Management," select "New Location"
  • Enter a location name (e.g., "Main Store Backroom" or "Warehouse A - Shelf 3")
  • Select a type (Warehouse / StoreBackroom / StoreFloor)
  • Link the associated store (for StoreBackroom / StoreFloor)

Checking inventory by location

Selecting a location shows a list of every product and its stock quantity stored at that location.

  • You can search and filter by product name or SKU
  • Items that fall below their low-stock threshold are flagged with an alert (used as a replenishment guideline)
  • Both the allocated quantity and actual on-hand quantity are shown

Checking locations by product

Starting from a product, you can see across all locations how many units are stored where. Even when the same SKU is spread across multiple locations, you can view the total stock quantity and the breakdown on a single screen.

Moving inventory between locations

Moving inventory between locations is managed as a transfer order. For details, see Replenishment and Transfers.
