Shelf Performance Analytics

Shelf Analytics Sales Floor Efficiency GMROI Out-of-Stock Rate A/B Testing

Shelf performance analytics is a feature that evaluates the profitability of the sales floor using quantitative metrics. By comparing efficiency by shelf and by category, you can determine which sales floors should be shrunk and which should be expanded.

Key metrics

  • Space-to-Sales Ratio — the ratio between the shelf's occupied space and its sales. Above 1.0 indicates good efficiency
  • Sales per m² (sales density) — sales per unit area of the sales floor
  • GMROI — gross margin divided by average inventory value. Indicates the efficiency of inventory investment
  • Out-of-Stock Rate (OOS Rate) — the proportion of business hours during which an item was out of stock
  • Turnover Rate — how many times inventory was replaced during a given period

Performance by category

Compare metrics across categories to see which categories are performing efficiently.

  • High sales but poor space efficiency category → consider shrinking the shelf
  • Low sales but good space efficiency category → consider expanding the shelf
  • High out-of-stock rate category → review the replenishment flow

Comparing across stores

Compare the same category's shelves across multiple stores.

  • Different sales despite the same shelf allocation → analyze the impact of location and customer demographics
  • High out-of-stock rate at a specific store only → identify replenishment operation issues
  • Roll out best practices from successful stores to other stores

A/B testing

Prepare two shelf allocation patterns and compare sales by splitting them across stores.

  • Set the test period, target stores, and comparison metrics
  • Automatically aggregate sales, gross margin, and out-of-stock rate during the test period
  • Determine whether the difference is statistically significant
  • Roll out the winning pattern to all stores

Out-of-stock alerts and replenishment efficiency

By linking with WMS sales-floor stock counts, alerts are issued as soon as an out-of-stock occurs. Measuring the Time-to-Replenish until the out-of-stock is resolved helps identify bottlenecks in the replenishment operation.

Reports and exports

Analysis results can be exported as CSV or PDF. Use them for head-office merchandising meetings or as materials for store feedback.
