How to change it
- Avatar at the top right → "Settings" → "Security"
- Click "Change password"
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password twice (see the separate article for the requirements)
- "Save changes"
What happens after you change it
- The new password takes effect immediately
- Sessions on other devices are logged out automatically
- You'll need to log in again on each device
- If you use a password manager, update the new password there
When a periodic change is worthwhile
In recent years the mainstream view is "you don't need to change it periodically, as long as it's strong and not reused." That said, change it immediately in the following cases.
- A password leak incident occurred at another service
- You see suspicious login history
- You remembered you left "Keep me signed in" on a shared PC
- Your relationship changed with someone you shared the account with
If you can't change it
- Your current password is wrong → if you can't recall it, follow the "If you forgot your password" steps
- The new password doesn't meet the requirements → check the requirements
- The new password matches one you used before → you can't reuse any of your last 5 passwords
